1. Start with the scalp. A clean healthy scalp is very important to growing healthy hair. Cleanse your hair every two weeks if possible.

2. Healthy ends allow you to retain length from your growth. Focus on your ends, moisturize with a hair mask at least once a month, use a leave in conditioner, then seal the moisture in with Kayhairapy oil, and trim your ends every 6-8 weeks.

3. Protective styles are great because they are little to no maintenance which means your hair isn’t being manipulated. Manipulating the hair causes breakage and splitting. When your hair is in protective styles you still need to wash your hair every two weeks to maintain a clean healthy scalp and hair.

4. Use silk or satin material for your hair, when it comes to your scarf, bonnet, pillow case, and scrunchy. You want to use a material that doesn’t absorb moisture from your hair, nor does it snag and break it.

5. It’s okay to give your hair a break from protective styles, but I notice a lot of clients that do this manipulate their hair way too much. If you are styling your hair everyday you are most likely damaging it, even if it’s curly. If you can’t leave your hair alone, just braid it back up!

6. Our hair is truly a reflection of how we take care of it, and also our health. Stress management, and diet play a role in our hair health. It can be easier said than done, but manage these two things.

7. Environment can alter the hair, hard water, dry air, pollution, lots of sun exposure play a part in the health of our hair. Some things we can’t avoid, but we can control the nurturing of our hair. This is where trimming, deep conditions, and nourishing our hair is also important.

8. Any chemical service on the hair can impact the integrity negatively. Not only lightening, but also color. Both dry the hair out and can cause breakage if hair doesn’t get enough moisture.

9. If your hair is prone to breakage, consider a protein treatment. This can help prevent breakage and improve length retention. Figuring out what is causing the breakage would be key so you could maintain minimal breakage without the treatment.

10. You must be consistent, and allow your hair at least 3 to 6 months to show noticeable results. We grow .5 inches of hair a month, 6 inches a year. A lot of people are impatient or inconsistent and will never get the results they’re looking for because they aren’t being realistic.
